Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

When I think of the month of June, I think of strawberries, roses, and the beginning of summer.

I also think of summer treats like smoothies. I love smoothies, especially when it is warm outside.

Two years ago, after playing harp for a wedding, I decided to purchase a nice “Vitamix” blender since I enjoy smoothies so much. I purchased the cheapest model they made called Vitamix “One”. I got mine new for $150. It was worth it to me.

Strawberry smoothies are a favorite of mine, and I thought I would share my smoothie recipe here.

This recipe is so easy; I actually just made it up. I enjoy it tremendously throughout the summer.

This recipe should work in any blender as long as the blender is running well.

To make a strawberry smoothie, all you need are three things:

• Frozen Banana (medium size)
• Frozen Strawberries (about 1 cup)
• Milk (1-2 cups)

• Place one frozen banana (broken into quarters) and frozen strawberries into your blender.

• Fill your blender with just enough milk to cover the banana and strawberries. You can use any kind of milk. I use almond milk, but there are other dairy free options. You can also use regular milk.

• Pulse your blender or blend on low until frozen banana and frozen strawberries begin to blend.

• Finish blending on medium or high speed until everything is completely smooth.

I like my smoothies a little thick. I don’t like runny smoothies. If your smoothie is too thick though, it won’t blend very well. Add more milk if you need to get the frozen fruit to blend better.

As you can see, I do not add any sugar or sweetener to my smoothie. Why not?

Bananas are naturally high in sugar, and a banana will give your smoothie a sweet flavor. If you want your smoothie to be sweeter, you could add about 1 Tablespoon of honey.

I freeze bananas after they begin to get some spots on the peelings. If bananas are not very ripe, then they are not as sweet. I always wait to peel and freeze bananas until they are ripe. I have made smoothies with bananas that have not been as ripe, and the flavor is not the same.

If you want extra nutrition in your smoothie, you can also add 1 teaspoon of whole flaxseeds. Your blender will blend them up. Flaxseeds have a very mild, slightly nutty flavor to them. Flaxseeds are excellent for women’s health.

For best nutrition, I recommend making this smoothie recipe with some kind of dairy free milk. Coconut milk would be delicious!

Chocolate milk (dairy free or regular) is also fun. I do this with dairy free, chocolate almond milk, and it is so delicious.

This smoothie recipe can be used with any kind of berry - strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries.

Just add about one cup of frozen berries with one frozen banana, add milk to cover everything, and blend well. You have an easy, delicious, and nutritious smoothie!

I think of June as strawberry month, July as blueberry month, August as raspberry month, and September as blackberry month.

Isn’t it amazing how each summer month has its own berry that comes into season that month?

God is so good. His Word says:

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…”

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Want a tropical smoothie instead?

• Place one frozen banana (broken into quarters) with about one cup of frozen fruit like peach, mango, papaya, or pineapple into your blender.

• Blend with 1-2 cups of orange juice instead of milk, unless you are using coconut milk. Coconut milk works well for a tropical smoothie. Strawberries also go nicely with tropical fruit in a tropical smoothie.

This recipe was quite delicious, I thought. This recipe includes oats which made it extra creamy, delicious, and filling. This recipe also includes some honey.

Blend until smooth.

Enjoy! Happy summer!
