All the hearts and flowers came and went quickly this month. Albeit, I still enjoy seeing heart decor lingering around.
Hearts always make me think about love, and I love remembering God’s incredible love for us.
Love. That is at the very heart and center of God’s Word and of the Gospel.
God’s Word says:
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
Love for God and love for others is at the center of the entire Bible, both Old and New Testament.
Upon being asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus said:
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Matthew 22:37-40
Everything in God’s law goes back to this - love for God and others. That’s so beautiful, isn’t it?
And it is so simple. I like simplicity; I like getting to the heart and root of things. Love is at the heart of God’s Word.
Love God with all your heart, and if your heart is completely open to God and to His Word, everything else will follow.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about Godliness, true Godliness. What is Godliness?
Godliness is God likeness. It is walking with God. It is walking in God’s ways.
I’ve been thinking about God’s commandments lately. There are many commands in God’s Word, more than just the two mentioned above.
While reading in the book of Exodus recently, I read the Ten Commandments God gave to His people. There are many commands that God gave His people, but the Ten Commandments were special. God wrote the Ten Commandments with His very own finger on two tables of stone. God did not do that with other commands He gave to His people. I believe the Ten Commandments are very special and important to God.
All of God’s commandments have significance; all of them come from a Heavenly Father’s heart of love and protection. It is beautiful and such a gift.
True Godliness?
Someone could walk in God’s ways because they were told to do so. But if it does not come from the heart of a person, it is not true Godliness.
God promised that, one day, He would write His commandments, not on tables of stone, but on the hearts of His people - the very center of our being.
This is written in the Old and New Testament.
“After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
Jeremiah 31:33
~
“I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.”
Hebrews 8:10
True Godliness always comes from within. True Godliness always comes from the heart.
